30 Days in New York is Now All One Needs to Vote After Mayor Signs Non-Citizen Bill

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has officially changed voting forever in New York City. Adams enacted the measure Sunday allowing over 800,000 non-citizens to vote In municipal elections. The city council first passed the law last month.

The eligibility rules to be allowed to vote are useless, granting “voting rights to any adult who has been a lawful permanent resident in the city for more than 30 days” , reports National Review. A lawful resident for only 30 days gives them the same voting power as lawful citizens who have lived there for decades or their whole lives.

“If it survives a legal challenge” notes National Review, “New York City will be the first to institute such a law. Under the law, legal non-Americans would be able to vote for a number of elected positions including the mayor, comptroller, public advocate, borough president, and council member.”

Undocumented immigrants in theory would not be granted the right to vote under this measure. Additionally, the law does not allow individuals to vote for president or members of Congress in federal election races or state gubernatorial elections.

Some localities that already allow noncitizens to vote in their elections include eleven towns in Maryland and two in Vermont. “I believe that New Yorkers should have a say in their government, which is why I have and will continue to support this important legislation,” said Adams in a statement Saturday.

“While I initially had some concerns about one aspect of the bill, I had a productive dialogue with my colleagues in government that put those concerns at ease. I believe allowing the legislation to be enacted is by far the best choice, and I look forward to bringing millions more into the democratic process” he added.

Violation of the Constitution. Extending voting rights to non-citizens nullifies and therefore abridges the voting rights of US Citizens. Start with Amendment 14 and Article 1, Sec. 8
Clause 4 which defines citizenship. The 15th Amendment specifically protects the right to vote of US Citizens. The 19th extends the protection to women “citizens of the United States.” The 24th targets poll taxes and protects the voting rights of “citizens of .the United States.” The 26th lowered voting age to 18 year old “citizens.” Its pretty damn clear that the drafters of theses Amendments never considered everyone physically in the US to be citizens and that only citizens have voting rights.

This is totally illegal and should easily be fought against and won if there is any sensible people out there. Somebody here illegally already broke the law. If a person is not legally a citizen then logically they cannot vote in our elections.

DeSantis Signs Bill Creating Police Unit To Handle Election Crimes

Ron DeSantis

On Monday, Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill into law that strengthens his state’s election security measures and creates a new police unit to investigate potential violations of election laws.

“This legislation will strengthen election security measures by requiring voter rolls to be annually reviewed and updated, strengthening ID requirements, establishing the Office of Election Crimes and Security to investigate election law violations, and increasing penalties for violations of election laws,” DeSantis’ office said in a statement.

DeSantis announced his signing of the bill on Twitter, saying, “The legislation I signed today will continue to make Florida a leader in election integrity by increasing penalties for ballot harvesting, expanding our ban on Zuckerbucks, and establishing an election integrity unit in state government to enforce our laws.”

“Twenty years ago, nobody thought Florida was a prime example of how to conduct elections, but we have become a national leader by running the most secure elections in the country,” DeSantis said in a press release. “We need to do more to ensure our elections remain secure. We have ended ballot harvesting, stopped drop boxes and the mass mailing of ballots, and banned Zuckerbucks, and this bill will give us more resources to make sure bad actors are held accountable.”

In addition to creating the “Office of Election Crimes and Security,” the bill will also authorize additional investigators within the state’s Department of Law Enforcement, according to Politico. The state has set aside a budget of $2.6 million and 25 positions for the two agencies.

“Governor DeSantis has made elections integrity a top priority from the very beginning of his administration, taking steps to ensure we invested in our elections systems, strengthened our cyber defenses, modernized equipment, updated voter rolls, and improved transparency, and we’ve seen results,” said Florida Secretary of State, Laurel M. Lee. “As Florida’s Chief Elections Official, I share Governor DeSantis’ strong commitment to elections integrity. We want to ensure that every Floridian can have confidence that in Florida, we do elections right.”

Winter Woes Cause Democratic Strategists to Panic

Democrats are concerned that their party is not going to be able to convince America that they should remain in the White House.

Amid supply chain bottlenecks, labor shortages, rising gas prices, and the threat of an increase in coronavirus cases, Democrats are concerned that their party is not going to be able to convince America that they should remain in the White House.

According to an article from The Hill, “[T]he White House and Democrats have struggled to sell their accomplishments, stirring worries within the party.” A Democratic strategist interviewed by The Hill shared, “‘The White House needs to figure out how to effectively communicate what it’s trying to do or people will lose faith.’”

Needing to assure Americans that they are responding effectively to the obstacles we will face this winter, the White House has a tough challenge ahead of them. Some Democratic strategists are uneasy about the prospects that the Democratic party will be able to maintain support given some of their recent election losses.

The Hill reports, “It all adds up to a difficult winter and potentially troublesome holiday season for President Biden, who already has seen his approval numbers drop amid a challenging few months for his administration. Fears that Biden’s party could lose the House and Senate in next year’s midterms are also up after a disappointing showing in last week’s elections in Virginia and New Jersey.”

Scrambling to find some good news to report, the White House seems to be putting all of their hope in the $1 trillion infrastructure bill.

“Biden suggested in a speech on Saturday that the infrastructure bill would ultimately help relieve supply chain bottlenecks by allowing companies to get goods to market more quickly. He also said the public would begin to feel the impacts of the bill ‘within the next two to three months’ as people are hired to work on new projects it funds. It’s unclear how long it will take the infrastructure bill to have any impacts on supply chains, however.”

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has prepared his excuse if the bill fails to make any real changes having stated on Monday that “‘[t]he best way to end a pandemic-related shortage is to end the pandemic, and that’s why the vaccine push is so important.’”

Still, the threat of a difficult winter for Americans is a resounding alarm for those worried about being able to heat their homes and get household necessities, let alone being able to traditionally celebrate the upcoming holidays. Failing to relieve the hardships Americans may face is likely to sink President Biden’s approval ratings even lower.

“Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm acknowledged Sunday on CNN that Americans will see higher heating bills this coming winter. She also said that Biden is considering tapping into the nation’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve to address rising fuel prices.” Although the White House claims to have a slew of options for taking action in response to the situation, they failed to provide any details on the steps they are considering regarding this matter. Though some are predicting there will be progress, others still remain pessimistic.
