Bloomberg’s $16M Plan To Pay Off Felon Debts To Vote For Biden Could Be Illegal

Michael Bloomberg has been flooding the state of Florida with millions of dollars in hopes that Biden wins the state’s 29 electoral college votes in November. One of his major contributions may just be illegal. Bloomberg helped raise roughly $16 million for the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition, which is paying off felons’ outstanding debts so that they can vote in the Presidential election.
Under Florida’s state constitution, convicted felons are given back their voting rights after their prison sentence has been served. In an enacted law under Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, felons “must pay all fines, restitution, and other legal financial obligations before their sentences could be considered fully served” reports Fox News.
Republican Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz, also a member of the House Judiciary Committee, argues Bloomberg’s activities are likely criminal and may launch a bribery investigation alongside Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody. Speaking on Sean Hannity’s program, Gaetz said “I believe there may be a criminal investigation already underway of the Bloomberg-connected activities in Florida.”
“[Under Florida law] it’s a third-degree felony for someone to either directly or indirectly provide something of value to impact whether or not someone votes. So, the question is whether or not paying off someone’s fines and legal obligations counts as something of value, and it clearly does” explained Gaetz.
“If Michael Bloomberg was offering to pay off people’s credit card debt, you would obviously see the value in that” he added. Additionally, “[W]hen you improve someone’s net worth by eliminating their financial liabilities, that’s something of value.” In normal circumstances, it would be very difficult to prove that that was directly linked to impacting whether or not someone was going to vote. But they literally wrote their own admission” added Gaetz.
Bloomberg released a memo stating “We know to win Florida we will need to persuade, motivate and add new votes to the Biden column. This means we need to explore all avenues for finding the needed votes when so many votes are already determined.” No better way to persuade than paying off debts; money talks. The memo continued, “the data shows that in Florida, Black voters are a unique universe unlike any other voting bloc, where the Democratic support rate tends to be 90%-95%.”
Racist assumption that the criminals are Black and will vote for Biden aside, the law is the law. “The law is clear this is something of value and I am encouraged after my conversation with the attorney general. I hope we have good law enforcement all over the country looking for the cheating and the tricks that these Democrats are going to try in this election.”
