Border Crisis To Worsen If Biden Able To Revoke Title 42

As President Biden’s border crisis continues, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is getting ready for a surge in illegal immigration of up to 18,000 migrants crossing the U.S. southern border per day if Biden successfully ends Title 42 – a border security policy enacted under former President Trump’s administration.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the “Biden administration plans to end its use of Title 42, a Trump-era pandemic border policy that allows the government to immediately turn away migrants at the southern border, by the end of May.”

“The order, which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention plans to issue later this week, says it is taking the step because ‘there is no longer a serious danger’ that migrants would introduce or spread Covid-19 inside immigration detention facilities,” the outlet added.

A DHS document obtained by ABC News  explains that revoking Title 42 will likely “cause a significant increase along all United States borders — primarily along the Southwest border.”

“The DHS Office of Immigration Statistics (OIS) produced projections for post-Title 42 Southwest Border encounters describing low, medium, high, or very high encounter scenarios,” the document says. “These scenarios underpin planning assumptions that generate requirements which in turn drive operational execution. Based on these projections the SBCC is currently planning for 6,000, 12,000 (high) and 18,000 (very high) encounters per day.”

Due to an already expected surge in illegal immigration this spring, the CDC is delaying the implementation of the order until the summer to allow the Department of Homeland Security to try to prepare.

“Border officials have expressed concern that, without the rapid-turnback policy, they will quickly be overwhelmed by migrants, leading to dangerous overcrowding in border facilities and releases of people into the U.S. who would normally be jailed or deported,” The Wall Street Journal reported.
