DEVELOPING: Charges Filed Against Suspect In Shooting Ambush Of 2 L.A. Deputies
In a video that went viral, Murray was shown running up to a police car and shooting the two officers at point-blank range.
Charges have been filed for the horrific ambush shooting of two Los Angeles County deputies earlier this month. 36-year-old Deonte Lee Murray was taken into custody on September 15 after a standoff with police. Murray has been charged with attempted murder; prosecutors announced today.
In a video that went viral, Murray was shown running up to a police car and shooting the two officers at point-blank range. Miraculously, both deputies are expected to make a full recovery. One of the deputies, a 31-year-old woman was shot in the face, and video showed her tending to her partner, who was shot in the head, as she called for backup. Both underwent surgery and have been released from the hospital.
The chilling video showed the man dressed in dark clothing walking right up to the police vehicle’s passenger window, raises his gun, opens fire, then runs away. Shortly after, the female deputy opens the SUV door and stumbles out, holding her head. The driver side door then opens and the female helps her partner out of the SUV and behind a concrete pillar.
The deputy called for backup despite her speech being severely slurred due to the gunshot wound. Fox News reports that at the time of his arrest, “Murray, who has suspected gang ties, was charged with one felony count each of carjacking, second-degree robbery, and assault with a semiautomatic firearm- personal use of a firearm. The charges also included allegations of association with a criminal street gang, discharging a rifle inflicting great bodily injury, and personal use of an AR-15.”
