On Wednesday, Twitter CEO Elon Musk revealed that former employees of the social media company had an internal Slack channel titled the “Fauci Fan Club,” referring to Dr. Anthony Fauci.

Musk revealed the information in a thread that was critical of the media’s idolization of Fauci.

“Almost no one seems to realize that the head of bioethics at NIH – the person who is supposed to make sure that Fauci behaves ethically – is his wife,” Musk noted.

Musk followed up with a link to a report on how Fauci argued in 2012 that the benefits of gain-of-function research outweighed the risk of a potential lab-leak accident causing a pandemic.

“‘Gain-of-function’ in this context is just another way of saying ‘bioweapon’. Some good nuggets in article. Important to note that Fauci authored 2012 paper arguing for gain-of-function research!” Musk tweeted. “Obama wisely put this on pause, but Fauci restarted it.”

Musk then revealed that former Twitter employees had an internal Slack channel called the “Fauci Fan Club.”

“Despite these glaring issues, Twitter nonetheless had an internal Slack channel unironically called ‘Fauci Fan Club,’” Musk wrote on Twitter. “I invite @CommunityNotes to correct or amend this thread.”

The news came shortly after the latest installment of the “Twitter Files” showed how the U.S. government “pressured Twitter and other social media platforms to elevate certain content and suppress other content about Covid-19,” according to independent writer David Zweig, who was reporting on behalf of Bari Weiss’s publication, The Free Press.

“Internal files at Twitter that I viewed while on assignment for @thefp showed that both the Trump and Biden administrations directly pressed Twitter executives to moderate the platform’s pandemic content according to their wishes,” Zweig wrote.
