Border officials encountered more than 251,000 migrants attempting to illegally cross the southern border in December, the highest number ever recorded, according to new data from Customs and Border Protection.

“Another Friday evening border news drop. CBP reports migrant 251,487 migrant encounters at the southern border in December, making it the highest month ever recorded. There have now been 717,660 encounters in first 3 months of FY’23 (Oct/Nov/Dec), not counting gotaways,” Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin announced on Twitter.

“This is now the tenth month in a row of more than 200,000 migrant encounters at the southern border. CBP sources tell FOX there were over 70,000 known gotaways at the border in December as well,” he added.

The news puts illegal immigration levels on track to hit a new record high in fiscal year 2023, which began in October. The current record was set in fiscal year 2022, when border officials encountered 2,378,944 migrants attempting to illegally cross the southern border.
