Lincoln statue celebrating emancipation of slaves removed by Boston leaders

Ironically, the statue was funded by former slaves who wanted to honor Lincoln, according to the National Park Service.

Abraham Lincoln is considered by many to be one of the greatest presidents in the history of our great nation.

Perhaps his greatest legacy is saving the union and abolishing slavery.

But, a Lincoln statue in Boston celebrating the emancipation of slaves was removed Tuesday after standing in Park Square since 1879.

The bronze statue, which is a replica of a monument in Washington D.C., was taken down in efforts to appease the demands of those offended by the image, which shows a freed black slave at the feet of the president, BizPacReview reports.

“A race set free and the country at peace. Lincoln rests from his labors,” reads the inscription at the base of both statues, meant to celebrate the freeing of slaves.

The Emancipation Memorial was removed from the park following a months-long debate, which included thousands of petition signatures. The Boston Arts Commission voted unanimously to have the statue taken down.

“After engaging in a public process, it’s clear that residents and visitors to Boston have been uncomfortable with this statue, and its reductive representation of the Black man’s role in the abolitionist movement,” Boston Mayor Marty Walsh said in a statement.

Ironically, the statue was funded by former slaves who wanted to honor Lincoln, according to the National Park Service.

Controversy stemmed from the positioning of the freed slave depicted in the statue. The shirtless man before Lincoln, based on the real former slave Archer Alexander, is seen rising to his feet, broken shackles on his wrists, to symbolize his new freedom.

But, critics say the image is demeaning because it shows the man kneeling before the white man who freed him.

“We’re pleased to have it taken down this morning,” a spokeswoman for Boston’s mayor said in a statement, CNN reports.

“As expressed by so many during the public process this year, we fully agree that the statue should be relocated to a new publicly accessible location where its history and context can be better explained,” she added. “The decision for removal acknowledges the statue’s role in perpetuating harmful prejudices and obscuring the role of Black Americans in shaping the nation’s fight for freedom.”

This serves as just one of many examples of the left trying to erase and rewrite history.

Cancel culture is real, and it’s scary.

I like to think they are protecting certain statues by placing them elsewhere. It’s fine if they’re under wraps for a few years until all this socialist s—t blows over—and it will.

Gordon, if the FREEDOM-LOVING people don’t step up and tell these fools NO, you can kiss the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA good-bye. Because if you destroy or erase history, you might just wake up one morning and find yourself in chains. ‘PAPERS, PLEASE!

When will the leaders of these cities just say NO! Enough is enough, they just let these far left liberals, cancel culturists, do whatever they want. These monuments have stood where they are for decades and we’re fine. The history of this country is not perfect, but a person can not just act like it did not happen. Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves, he did not enslave them, I believe that was the democrats that did that, so are they just going to rewrite what actually happened? That is the same thing that has happened to the college kids today, they only know what the liberal professors tell them over and over again, that the USA was built on racism and hatred! So many college kids want socialism, but if you ask them what exactly that is they do not know!

Amen brother. Emancipated slaves started their careers with no money, yet donated from their first earnings to make this statue possible. Now the left wants to steal it from all Americans in order to create more dissension. Thank you for shedding light on this Mr Terrell.

Yep a prime example of how successful the Dems propaganda has been in changing our nations history and throwing shade on the good stuff etc. People think that statue was bad; keep on reading. Since 1901 Congress has come up with 240 such laws and none were sent to the sitting President. Seven Presidents from Harrison to Truman have asked for Congress to send them anti-lynching legislation and Congress has not done so. Currently there are two bills in Congress. The House bill, the Emmett Till Anti-Lynching Act is in the Senate and has been since July 2019. Sen Rand Paul (R) KY objected to it and said it needs to be rewritten. Under Senate rules it is dead in its tracks. In February 2019 the Senate sent the Justice for Victims Act to the House. In House approved the bill and placed in on the Union Calendar in July 2019 where is has been ever since. This bill was co-authored by VP-elect Kamala Harris, Sen Cory Booker and Sen Tim Scott. Nobody is talking about these two bills. Not Congress, not the NAACP, not the Congressional Black Caucus and not anybody in the media. Not ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, HLN, MSNBC, FOX. No radio personalities have brought the subject up. Newspapers from New York to California have not printed any stories on this failure. But what the heck, the Civil War has only been over for 155 years.

I do not agree with removing it but at least it went through a public process and will be removed to a public accessible location. The Hungarians did a similar thing in Budapest removing all soviet communist statuary to a public accessible park where visitors could see them. But the cancel culture movement must be stopped, the destroyed statuary replaced and the rioters punished. They are now in our schools indoctrinating our children. There can be no compromise, no hesitation, no capitulation. Freedom, Liberty, Prosperity.

Gunman In Highland Park Shooting Was ‘Dressed In Women’s Clothing’

Police

The suspected gunman who opened fire at a Fourth of July parade in Highland Park, Illinois, on Monday was wearing women’s clothing as a disguise, police announced Tuesday.

The attack killed six people and injured dozens more, according to Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek. The suspect, 22-year-old Robert E. Crimo III, was apprehended by police later that day near Lake Forest, Illinois.

“During the attack, Crimo was dressed in women’s clothing,” said Sgt. Christopher Covelli, of the Lake County Major Crime Task Force, FOX 10 reported. “Investigators do believe he did this to conceal his facial tattoos and his identity and help him during the escape with the other people who were fleeing the chaos.”

“He brought a high-powered rifle to this parade,” Covelli said. “He accessed the roof of a business via a fire escape ladder and began opening fire on the innocent Independence Day celebration-goers.”

“After the shooting, Crimo blended in with the crowd and walked to his mother’s home in the area where he borrowed her vehicle, Covelli said. A member of the community spotted Crimo driving and called 911,” FOX 10 reported. “Crimo was pulled over and arrested during a traffic stop about five miles north of the shooting.”

Investigators have interrogated Crimo and reviewed his social media but have not been able to determine a motive for the attack, Covelli said.

Democrats Introduce ‘Transgender Bill Of Rights’

Published

on

On Tuesday, House Democrats introduced a “Transgender Bill of Rights” to “protect and codify the rights of transgender and nonbinary people under the law and ensure their access to medical care, shelter, safety, and economic security.”

Led by Democrat Reps. Pramila Jayapal (WA), David Cicilline (RI), Marie Newman (IL), Mark Takano (CA), and Ritchie Torres (NY), HR 1209 proposes “amending the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex, including gender identity and sex characteristics in public accommodations and federally funded programs and activities.”

“As we witness Republicans and an extremist Supreme Court attack and roll back the fundamental rights of trans people across our country, and as state legislatures across the country target our trans community with hateful, bigoted, and transphobic attacks, we are standing up and saying enough is enough,” said Jayapal, the chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and co-chair of the Transgender Equality Task Force.

“Our Trans Bill of Rights says clearly to the trans community across the country that we see you and we will stand with you to ensure you are protected and given the dignity and respect that every person should have,” Jayapal added.

The bill seeks to increase the ability of children to get permanent and life changing surgeries by “eliminating unnecessary governmental restrictions on the provision of, and access to, gender-affirming medical care and counseling for transgender and nonbinary adults, adolescents, and children.”

The bill will additionally ensure that biological male students are allowed to compete in girls’ sports by amending federal “education laws to ensure that they protect students from discrimination based on sex, including gender identity and sex characteristics, and guarantee students’ right to participate in sports on teams that best align with their gender identity.”

Federal education laws will also be amended to allow students to :use school facilities that best align with their gender identity,” meaning that biological males would be allowed to use girls’ restrooms and locker rooms.

The bill expands beyond “transgender rights” to also ban states from making laws restricting abortion by “codifying the right to abortion.”
