Liz Cheney Loses Primary Elections, Trump Responds
Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) lost her primary race on Tuesday against Harriet Hageman in Wyoming, who had been endorsed by former President Donald Trump.
Cheney’s loss comes after she aggressively fought hard against her fellow Republicans, leading The New York Times editorial board to call the result “a bad dream to many of Ms. Cheney’s Democratic admirers.”
With approximately 69% of the votes counted, Hageman leads with 64% of the vote to Cheney who has only 31% of the vote.
In response to Cheney’s devastating loss, former President Trump posted on social media congratulating Hageman on her win.
“Congratulations to Harriet Hageman on her great and very decisive WIN in Wyoming,” Trump wrote on social media. “This is a wonderful result for America, and a complete rebuke of the Unselect Committee of political Hacks and Thugs. Liz Cheney should be ashamed of herself, the way she acted, and her spiteful, sanctimonious words and actions towards others. Now she can finally disappear into the depths of political oblivion where, I am sure, she will be much happier than she is right now. Thank you WYOMING!”
