Olympic Committee Draws Hard Line: Athletes Banned From ‘Black Lives Matter’ Apparel
Let’s see how the woke culture handles this: Black Lives Matter apparel has officially been banned from the upcoming Summer Olympics, the Washington Examiner reports. The announcement was made by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
As were many things, the Summer Olympics were postponed last year due to the novel coronavirus pandemic but is slated to take place in Japan at the end of July.
While the phrase “Black Lives Matter” is banned from athletes’ apparel and gear, slogans or words such as “peace,” “respect,” “solidarity” “inclusion” and “equality” will be allowed. The committee is likely taking things very seriously, as severe consequences have already been laid out, stating it will be addressed on a case-by-case basis.
The committee stated athletes also will not be allowed to protest during competitions, which remains part of its long-standing ban on “demonstration or political, religious or racial propaganda.”
In the statement released in April by the IOC they explained, “The IOC AC is very concerned about the risk of politicization of the athletes and the risk that athletes may be put under external pressure.” Therefore, “it is important to protect athletes from the potential consequences of being placed in a position where they may be forced to take a public position on a particular domestic or international issue, regardless of their beliefs.”
