Psaki Claims Pelosi Kissing Biden On The Cheek Was Not ‘Close Contact’
During Thursday’s press briefing, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki claimed that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who has tested positive for COVID-19, kissing President Biden on the cheek and holding his hand did not meet the White House’s standard of “close contact.”

“How can you guys say that President Biden was not a close contact with Speaker Pelosi when there is video of the Speaker kissing him?” Fox News reporter Peter Doocy asked.
“Well, Peter, the way that it is defined is by the Center for Disease Control — the CDC,” Psaki responded. “And their definition of it is 15 minutes of contact within a set period of time within six feet. It did not meet that bar.”
“It does not mean that no one will get COVID around the world who does not have a close contact,” she continued. “It just means we are defining, for all of you, whether the President and their interaction met the definition of the CDC of a close contact.”

On Thursday, Pelosi’s office announced that she had tested positive for COVID-19 the day after attending an event with Biden and other top Democrats.
“After testing negative this week, Speaker Pelosi received a positive test result for COVID-19 and is currently asymptomatic,” Drew Hammill, Pelosi’s deputy chief of staff, tweeted. “The Speaker is fully vaccinated and boosted, and is thankful for the robust protection the vaccine has provided.”
Multiple other Democrats who attended the event have now tested positive for COVID-19, as noted by Axios.
“Attorney General Merrick Garland and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo tested positive for the coronavirus on Wednesday, days after they attended the Gridiron Club dinner, a high-profile D.C. media event,” Axios reported. “Reps. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and Joaquín Castro (D-Texas) also tested positive after attending the dinner on Saturday.”
